The past six days have been much different that we imagined. Last Thursday morning we were told we had to prep for 80 mile per hour winds and rain coming from the hurricane in Florida. For reference we are in Tennessee. This place has seen wind that big before, so we spent half the day preparing for that, then went to the grocery. Friday morning we woke to the storm. We were out of electricity most of the day. Not bad compared to many. We thought it could be days or weeks.

It wasn’t until Friday afternoon that we started getting reports about North Carolina. Our son is there. I did not hear back from him until late Saturday night. He is OK, and with friends. I am so grateful for that. They are in one of the worst areas of western North Carolina. The destruction is worse than any other hurricane reports I have seen. And, I have lived through a big one myself.

What is really amazing is that even though this was a huge hurricane 500 miles wide, with extreme damage, many people on the west coast haven’t even heard of it. In case you have not heard of it or seen the damage. This video will give you an idea of what most of western North Carolina looks like.

What is even more amazing is the lack of response from the president etc… of corporation of the US of A. Apparently there were some vacations and personal fundraisers to attend to that were more important to them over the weekend. Then, when they did respond, it was to send “up to 1000” soldiers to assist. That is very little given the situation. On top of that, there is little funding for it, since they just sent $375 million to Ukraine with a plan to send Billions more.

Yet here is a report from a man in the area who is working locally to bring in assistance.

In addition to all that, the news in not talking about the looting and roaming gangs; gun and machete fights over gasoline, intentional road blocks of emergency food and water being delivered(most by private groups). They do talk about neighbors banding together, and that is true. They just fail to mention the necessity of patrolling and remaining armed for safety from the looters and gangs.

Here is another report from a local woman describing what it is actually like.

If you know anyone there please send them your love, and if you can assist them in any way please offer to do so. Some people have lost everything.

To everyone we know from Nevada County California, not only is our son there in the middle of this, he is with a family you all know. They are all alive and well at this point. They are in an area with looting and other craziness. And, no one yet knows of their new home they were building, and if it survived, as it was a half hour drive away, before the hurricane. We do not yet know how help can be sent to them. However, if you are interested, we can inquire.
